We have our highs and lows in business. We have seasons where we are super pumped and taking action toward getting to the next level. We have seasons where we lack motivation and we can’t understand where our drive has gone. Then there comes a point when we start to dwell in our low moments and downplay our success because we aren’t where we want to be in life or in our business. We see everyone around us succeeding and we can’t understand why we aren’t gaining momentum.
The true question is, what happened to the motivation we had when we first started?
Your motivation is what drives you to do what you do in your business, but how do you attain the motivation and consistently live for it?
1.Know Your Why
You have to know your why. I know that this is cliche, but it is the absolute truth. Your why is your motivation. Your why is what drives you to be motivated. If you don’t know the sole purpose behind why you do what you do then you will consistently allow things to distract you, knock you off course, and defeat you.
When you are crystal clear on your why it will help you to decide what you should be doing and what you shouldn’t be doing. The opportunities and experiences you should be engaging in and the ones you should not.
Once you are clear on this you should never let anything stand in the way of it.
As long as you are unclear and neglect to take the time to dig deep and decide what your why is, you will always lack motivation and drive, and you will always have that feeling of being lost and not understanding why you aren’t moving forward.
So identify your why. Is it to be able to provide a better lifestyle for your family? Is it to be able to pay for your children to go to college? Is it to influence and impact a community and leave a lasting legacy?
What is your why?
Start with identifying your Purpose, Passion, Goals, and Core Values. Once you have identified these 4 make a conscious effort to not engage in anything that isn’t aligned with these 4 areas. Use the Shift Your Creative Mindset Journal to begin this process and to consistently set intentional goals that will motivate you to be great.
2. Identify the Love and Hate Relationship in Your Business
Start by identifying and writing down your strengths and weaknesses.
What gives you the most joy in your business? What are the energy draining tasks? What are you just not that good at? What fulfills you in your business? What is the light that makes you spark? What comes easy to you?
You have to focus more on the things that you love and the things that make you happy. When starting out in your business you may have to do everything, which includes the things that you don’t like. Once you start making your stride and are willing to make the investments you need to get to the next level you will have to limit the time you spend on low level and energy draining activities.
Start by outsourcing and delegating so that you can do more of what ignites your flame.
3. Wake Up and Speak Positive Thoughts Daily
Your words have power. More power than you know. When you say, “I’m never going to make 6 figures.”, “This is just too hard, I’m never going to figure it out.”, “I’m a failure. Nothing ever seems to go right in my business.”, you are planting those seeds right into the universe to make sure that you never succeed. What you speak has the power to be manifested so be sure to choose your words wisely.
Write daily affirmations on sticky notes around the house or in your office. Wake up, repeat them, and command and declare your day.
“God’s wealth circulates in my life, it flows to me in avalanches of abundance. All my needs, desires and goals are met instantaneously, for I am with God and he is everything!” – Tony Robbins
Today I will be motivated beyond measures.
Today will be an amazing and productive day.
I have the same 24 hours that every great has had in this world to be successful.
I will lead by example and carry others with me.
4. Be Ambitious and Believe that Greater is Coming
It can be easy for some to speak positive words and affirmations everyday, but you also have to believe your thoughts. You have to believe that the visions and plans that you have for your life and business have the ability to come to pass.
As you speak positive thoughts also speak where you see yourself in the future and how you desire your life to be. Then begin to visualize that you have these things. That you can and will obtain them, you just don’t currently have them in your possession. But you will. Very soon. As you visualize don’t just pray and wait for them to come to pass. Speak, believe, visualize, and work for what you want. Take action to make these things come to pass and the universe will help align your thoughts, beliefs and actions so that they will come to fruition.
5. Be committed
If you say you are going to do something. Do it and do it with full force. Give it your all, all the time not some of the time.
If you want something really bad. Prove it. The effort that you put in will yield results based on your actions.
Everything that you do is a representation of you. Do you want to be known as the person who always gives up? When you are going after what you desire, giving up is not an option. Keep pressing on no matter what. Giving up is easy, pushing through is rewarding and will keep you motivated to keep getting more done.
Begin by developing a routine. First identify how your time is spent currently. Take note of all distractions and time wasting activities. Now it’s time to eliminate those distractions now that you are aware of them. They are holding you back, big time.
In order to stay focused schedule your days and block off time for everything to fully manage your day and time. Adjust and pivot when needed. Repetition turns into a routine and routines help develop consistency.
Super Bonus: When I need a little push and I’m slow to activate my self-motivation I listen to my motivation playlist I created that gets me going or I watch ET the Hip Hop Preacher YouTube Videos.
