Kyshira is based in Pittsburgh, PA and when she isn’t working on her brand she’s watching WWE Raw.
So let’s go ahead and jump right into it!
What was your “light bulb” moment that inspired you to start your business?
A conversation with one of my sorority sisters actually. She told me in college that I needed to start charging for my services, otherwise people would take advantage of me. And she was right. I knew it when someone who I knew couldn’t stand me reached out on Facebook for resume help. It was then that I started to monetize my talents.
What was your strategy to get your business up and running?
Early on, there wasn’t one. I was getting clients via word of mouth consistently so I didn’t market. All I had was my price list. I am thankful that I was smart enough to ask for public recommendations on LinkedIn of my work at least.
How long have you been in business? 3 years
What has been your most defining success moment?
I’ve had several defining moments that have meant a lot to me. I think one of the larger ones was hosting the first ever Hustle HER Way summit. I was scared to death to host this. My biggest fear is that no one would show up. The summit in fact sold out within a month. I was able to bring my brand and vision to life! That moment showed me that I can truly do anything I set my mind to.
How do you push past fear in order to live up to your fullest potential?
I have a saying, feel the fear and do it anyway. I truly live by that mantra. Fear has always made me hesitate on making a decision. Hesitation for me has led to loss of too many opportunities. I no longer allow fear to do this. I ask myself, “what’s the worst that could happen?” and I go from there.
What sacrifices have you made that have contributed to you reaching the next level in your business?
I’ve scarified everything. Time, money, relationships, energy, sleep, you name it. That’s how you know if you really walking in your purpose. If you can’t sacrifice any of the aforementioned items, entrepreneurship may not be for you. And that is OK! I hate the stigma that there is something wrong with having a 9-5. There isn’t. Entrepreneurship is tough. Its not all glamour and Instagram flatlays. Only pursue this if you’re willing to risk it all.
What’s one of your go-to strategies to market your business and grow your audience?
Blogging. It’s my main mechanism to promote my expertise. Anyone can get on Periscope and talk a good game, but can you actually write a consistent and quality article on your niche? As a service provider, my clients have to know and trust that I know what I’m doing. Blogging helps me to build that initial relationship.
How do you remain productive, consistent, and organized? Share with us your Productivity and Time Management Hustle Hacks.
I have a really popular episode of the bombshell diaries on this topic. I’d recommend checking it out for specific tips. However, my secret for remaining consistent and organized? Discipline. It’s the only way you’ll sustain your business. You can buy all the journals and post it notes that you want. But if you’re not disciplined enough to plan AND execute, it’s a waste.
At what point did you realize you wanted to monetize your blog and how did you determine how to price your products and services?
Good question. I was late to the monetization goal. I didn’t get serious about monetizing until late 2015 and had to play catch up. I price my products affordably on purpose. As a millennial, I understand the financial struggles that we all have. Everyone may not be in a place to pay for a consultant, but that doesn’t mean they should go without. I’ve created affordable classes and books to help you figure out how to build your bombshell brand on your own.
What are the most important keys to running a successful and profitable business?
Have a plan! Yes you can tweak it but you need a strategy. We’re launching things with no purpose or direction. I offer a business plan template that you can update each quarter with your priorities and focuses.
What’s your favorite quote or mantra?
Eat, Sleep, Build Your Brand, Repeat. This essentially means, in the early stages, the hustle doesn’t stop.
What’s your favorite book that has attributed to some of your success?
Never Eat Alone and Talk Like Ted.
Share one piece of advice you would like to tell a fellow creative that you wish you had known when you launched your business?
Run experiments in your business. Test your market before fully launching something. Take their feedback, go back into the lab, and make it great. Too many of us are afraid of experiments. We either don’t launch at all or launch the wrong thing.
Thank you so much Kyshira for taking the time out to inspire creatives and entrepreneurs throughout their success journey.
