I had the pleasure of interviewing her about her journey. Let’s kick it off as she shares #HerHustleHacks and her Free Success Strategy Mini-Workbook available for download at the end of the interview.
What was your “light bulb” moment that inspired you to start your business?
I didn’t get a light bulb right away because I’ve never thought about an online business before. I run a freelancer bridal business and frequently received repetitive business questions from friends and associates. My initial strategy was to find a place online that people who need business advice can go to. I knew I didn’t want to publish anything so I researched and found the world of blogging and online businesses. I thought “Oh, I could monetize this”. That was my “light bulb” moment.
What was your strategy to get your business up and running?
Again, no real strategy initially. I just created about 10 blog posts about business, customer service, branding, and marketing to start with. I designed my website. I opened social media accounts prior to launching my live website, and I announced that I will be launching to the world a few weeks before I hit the green button. I had no real plan in place. The only concrete plan was to get the information in my head on the website.
How long have you been in business?
I am in my second year of business.
What has been your most defining success moment?
I honestly don’t feel like I’ve had the moment just yet. I just have my proudest moment so far and that is: starting an online business and earning passive income from it.
How do you push past fear in order to live up to your fullest potential?
Fear and I are in a daily battle. I get past fear by charging my motivational batteries. In other words, I listen to sermons, podcasts, and read blogs. I look at interior design websites and stalk Pinterest until I’m inspired. Then I just do. I am not living at my fullest potential. I am still becoming.
What sacrifices have you made that have contributed to you reaching the next level in your business?
Losing time with my family. Losing friendships. I know that energy is extremely important. Since I’ve started this business, it has become my defining moments to the success or failure of a project. Now that I know how effective it is on my performance, I protect it at all costs.
What’s one of your go-to strategies to market your business and grow your audience?
Facebook groups and Instagram stories. I join Facebook groups that have both colleagues and my target audience in them. I participate in share posts consistently. I share BTS (behind-the-scenes) videos with my audience and discuss the end results with my audience over a specific period of time, depending on the price point of my product/service.

Batching! I am about that batch life! I batch create my blogs. I outline 3-5 at a time. Then, I go back and fill in the text at a scheduled time. I batch schedule Twitter and IG content with Hootsuite. I batch create everything!
At what point did you realize you wanted to monetize your blog and how did you determine how to price your products and services?
When I researched before launching, I realized I wanted to monetize what I knew. I launched with 3 products. I earned within 4 hours of launching. It was fuel to my fire!
Pricing my products:
I wanted something practical as far as my digital downloads; nothing is over $40.
For my courses, I aim to get the reaction of my students being helped far beyond what they paid for. Those are also practical priced. My content creation course is $97. It teaches people how to create dimensional content for the 3 different audience groups in your target audience. My passive income course is the highest at $167. It introduces my students to passive income products and provides several resources such as design tutorials and outsourcing references to help to start earning from the first day of enrollment. All my students get an opportunity to join my affiliate program for the passive income guide they receive in the course as well. You can’t beat that!
As far as my services, I only want to work with those who can keep up with my strategies and who are serious about their business. I start strategy sessions at $197 for one-on-one sessions and I offer a monthly package for $497.
What are the most important keys to running a successful and profitable business?
Listening! Many people do not listen to themselves, their audience, or the market. Let me break this down:
Listening to you – There are way too many followers online. Yes, people have to start somewhere, but there are many things like talents and skills that people ignore about themselves in order to keep up with everyone else is doing. Many people don’t take the road less traveled. They see “them” doing it so they follow in line. Listening to you is extremely important.
Success tip: Embrace what you know and where you are. Embrace your season. Listen to your inner gut about what your next move should be. Listening to their audience – Your audience will tell you a lot about the content you post. They will either interact with it or they won’t. Some of us are posting things don’t interest our audience or content that is over our audience’s head. In other words, we aren’t speaking the same language as our audience.
Success tip: Pay attention to your engagement rates. Pay attention to what people like, comment on, share and repost. When you find out what they like to engage with, make more content like it.
Listening to the market – This part of listening is all about research. Before a business develops products, they should spend time, and possibly money, researching the market. This means that they should know if there is a demand or need for their idea. It saves times and money. Many, many people skip research and it hurts them in the end. They have to start over more times than they’d like to admit because they didn’t listen to their market.
Success tip: Make sure your idea is viable. Make sure it’s useful and helps people accomplish a goal or solves a problem. Find reviews about similar products in your industry and see what people don’t like about them. Avoid doing those things with your products. Learn to try before you buy. Invest in competitor products and assess what makes it great and not so great. Think about how your product can be produced better.
What’s your favorite quote or mantra?
You are becoming. In other words, there is no stop to aim for or no destination to arrive to; you are becoming the person you are destined to be. It’s a great reminder to me when I am down about certain areas of my business. It is also a great reminder that I am forever evolving.
What’s your favorite book that has attributed to some of your success?
Year of Yes, hands down. I am a person to say “no” a lot from fear and this book has helped me with my thought-process about being in front of people or being the center of attention. Naturally, I dislike attention but for business, I am definitely getting over that quickly!
Share one piece of advice you would like to tell a fellow creative that you wish you had known when you launched your business?
Stop overthinking every little thing and just do it. Things will never be perfect. You will have to go back and adjust because you have to improve everything you produce with time; it’s business. Accept it.
This was great! Thank you so much for all of your insight, advice, and hacks.
